Description
The Choral part, inspired by Russian chant, is made up of whole, dotted half, half and quarter notes. The more important the word, the longer the note value. Originally composed for an SAAB choir, it also works as well sung by an SATB choir. The verse, written by 2nd C. theologian Iraneous, can be repeated two or more times; the first time with just the choir. Besides a cappella choir, the piece calls for 4 handbells ringing a G major chord, a flute, and a drum. Each repetition after the first should be a different combination of these three other forces joining in and dropping out at the director's discretion. The director may choose to plan the form or be spontaneous.
