This octavo includes two fairly simple handbell pieces for a beginning choir. But if you want to have some fun, try it with three or four ringers only. I know that Fanfare is easily done with three skilled (four-in-hand) ringers. Let me know if you try Lobe with a small ensemble. Fanfare is a majestic piece suitable for any service. It is an excellent pedogogical tool for practicing rhythm and counting. It is a 3/4/5 voice fanfare that makes good use of 4ths, 5ths, etc.. Lobe Den Herren utilizes many different handbell techniques: martellato; shake; swing; etc.. It works quite well to tie the two pieces together to make one 3 to 3 1/2 minute anthem piece. To do that, on the last chord of the fanfare, the conductor should immediately start the new 3/4 meter in the tempo of Lobe Den Herren for 1, 2, or more mutually agreed upon number of measures, and then jump in. It works well.
